Exam Setup

As administrator you have total control of exam content. The exam setup window is a powerful tool. Create new exams with a few clicks of the mouse. View saved exams, set current exam content, and print exam sheets and answer key.

When opened the Setup Window displays the current exam. The current exam number is always displayed at the top of the window. This is the exam that is transmitted to the examinee, and is printed when using the printing options.

Selecting Exams From Library

The Flashing Light Exam ships with 10 exams numbered 101 to 110. To view a stored exam simply click on the arrow next to "Select Exam" and view a list of all exams. Choose an exam by clicking on it. The exam number is shown in the list box heading, and the exam content is displayed in the window.

Set Current Exam

After selecting the exam it needs to be set as current. The number of the current exam is displayed at the top of the window. The current exam is the exam that will be transmitted to the applicant, and printed when using the print options.

Click on the Set As Current Exam button at the bottom of the window sets the exam displayed as the current exam. Notice in the picture below the Set As Current Exam button is not visible. This option is only displayed when the exam selected is different from the current exam.

Printing Exams and Answer Key

Select the number of exams and answer sheets you wish to print, then click on the Print Exam and Answer Key button. Before printing starts the Windows Print Dialog opens. Click OK to print using the default printer. The exam number is printed on both exam and answer key for easy identification.

The current exam is printed along with the answer key. The current exam is displayed at the top of the window.

Note: Before printing exams make sure the company or institution information is up to date. This info is printed at the top of the exam and answer key. Use the Options Dialog window to make changes.

Create and Save New Exam

Create a new exam by clicking the New button, or edit any existing exam.

Part  I - The random letter groups and identity signal are entered using the keyboard, type the letters as you would with any text box.

Part  II - The International Code Of Signals (Pub. 102) code groups are entered by first selecting a category from the drop down list box at the top of the section. Clicking the arrow next to "Select Category" expands the list. Click on the category you wish to use. With a the category selected the 5 list boxes are filled with the Pub. 102 code group meanings. Clicking on the arrow expands the list. Click on the meaning to enter it. The code is entered in the text box next to the meaning automatically.  

The category can be changed between code groups. For instance you can enter a code group from the category "Assistance" in the first group, then select category "Boats_Rafts" for the next group. The categories, meanings and code identical to Pub. 102.

When all the fields are complete the Save button is enabled. Click the Save button to save the exam. You are prompted to enter an exam number. Exam numbers can be any character, up to10 characters. Keep in mind saving the exam does not make it the current exam.
